Museum of Fine Arts (MUŻA), Malta
Ranked as One of the Top Museums to Open in 2018
Once again, Malta was featured as a must-view country; this time for a promising museum that will open its doors in 2018. The Architectural Digest rated MUŻA, the Museum of Fine Arts, as one of the top 15 noteworthy museums top open this year.
Malta is on the top list with all the big museums in Seattle, Scotland, Florida, South Carolina, and more. Situated in South Street, the Museum of Fine Arts closed down for business 42 years ago. Its historical exhibits will be transferred to the new location, MUŻA at Auberge d’Italie.
MUŻA is the Maltese term for inspiration and the word stands for the project’s vision. The word is also an acronym for MUŻew Nazzjonali tal-Arti which is the name of the current National Museum of Fine Arts. This new museum will aim to recognise the history of the previous collection at the old museum while also bringing to life new values that have surfaced over time.
‘’Looking back at how the muses inspired creativity, the project shall keep questioning the relevance of museums in this day and age and how these have to remain dynamic and vibrant institutions owned by the community.’’
MUŻA’s location is a historical site in itself and its where the first Malta Museum was established in 1924. The building was once the seat of the Italian Knights of the Order of St John. The museum will launch during the European Capital of Culture year in Malta.
